We are happy to announce that Susen Vural Design has been awarded a design services contract by King's College London as one of their approved suppliers. The award is the result of a detailed and rigorous tender process which started earlier in the year. Susen Vural Design has been an approved supplier of design services to King's since 2007. We are delighted to be able to continue and develop our working relationship with this prestigious institution in the years to come. Study on colour, texture & type #1
A selection of observations from a trip to France last year where one encounters the most unexpected and delightful visual surprises in the most unassuming places, such as the mural of a young lady peering out from a window on an old building or an art gallery dedicated entirely to cats.
Article on Byron exhibition in SCONUL Focus
An article about the Byron exhibition by our clients, Katie Sambrook and Stephanie Breen from Foyle Special Collections Library at King's College London, has been published in SCONUL Focus, a librarianship journal. In the article, they outline some of the steps involved in putting on the exhibition including their experience of working with us on the exhibition catalogue. http://www.sconul.ac.uk/sites/default/files/documents/3rev.pdf
Down memory lane #3
Visual identity for a new business offering post-production services. A bold logo with a rainbow graded colour-palette was designed to visualise the multi-faceted problem solving force of the company along with an original strapline, 'a stitch in time', pointing to the timeline format intrinsic to the sound/picture editing process. The identity was then applied to a four page business card/promotional item to be handed out to prospective clients at a major international film festival.
World War One Research Guide
In August 2014, the world will mark the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of the First World War. To commemorate this event, we were commissioned to design a publication by King's College London Archives & Special Collections as part of their series of research guides. The brief was to create a publication in harmony with their existing guides but which also had to include extensive copy while making expressive use the Collection's archival imagery from the period. This resulted in a 36 page, self-cover A5 booklet with an elegant, sophisticated and clear design including the application of nice, typographic detail throughout.
Annual Report
A second Annual Report design for Library Services at King's College London which continues to present the work of this division, using iconic and archival imagery from the College's own collection alongside carefully sourced photography from on-line stock libraries. The design and layout is based on the fresh and sophisticated approach that we had created for this series of publications.
Aspires Report & Posters
Report design for ASPIRES, a research project by the Department of Education & Professional Studies at King's College London, investigating the science and career aspirations of young people, aged 10-14. The brief was to represent the culmination of five years' work in an accessible and dynamic format with an emphasis on the young people concerned. A series of five A1 posters were also produced with key messages from the report to be displayed at a conference where the report's findings were presented.
Poetry Booklet, Invite & Flyer
A personal project for my tutor Ewa Gargulinska, painter and poet, in the form of a booklet of her poetry which also showcases a small selection of her paintings. The booklet is designed as a narrow format publication at 44 pages of poems plus an 8 page cover with throw-out, showing paintings, biography and a review. It was launched at the recent opening of Ewa's exhibition at Ognisko Polskie, The Polish Hearth Club, 55 Exhibition Rd, London SW7 2PN. A DL Invite and an A5 Flyer were also designed. Exhibition continues till 2 December. www.ewagargulinska.co.uk
A catalogue for the Byron & politics: 'born for opposition' exhibition at King's College London
We are happy to present the cover and several spreads from a catalogue that we designed to accompany the Byron & politics: 'born for opposition' exhibition currently at The Weston Room, Maughan Library, King's College London. The exhibition was jointly mounted by the John Murray Archive of the National Library of Scotland and the Foyle Special Collections Library of King’s College London. It includes original literary and political manuscripts, private letters, printed editions and personal possessions of the poet, many of them never exhibited in public before. We really enjoyed the design process and collaboration with the team from King's and the NLS. The exhibition continues until the 25th of September. Row the Amazon
Another logo design under our belts! Susen and I have recently completed this small and every enjoyable project for a very good cause. We produced the logo for Mark de Rond and Anton Wright, both of Cambridge University, who are about to row the entire length of the Amazon, starting from Peru and all the way to Brazil, in September. The challenge is in aid of the Leonard Cheshire Charity.

Logo design for the upcoming 12th annual international conference organised by BRASA (Brazilian Studies Association) in London. The brief was to use iconic symbols from the city's skyline and colours of the Brazilian flag to create a mark that would be used across a wide range of conference related materials. This in turn inspired the creation of a block reminiscent of a stamp.
Logo & Web Banner Design
Logo design for Latin Wines Online, UK's premiere Latin wine store. The brief was to create a playful and quirky identity to be applied to a web banner which had to work with the existing website. Organic shapes were used for a compact and immediate appeal. http://latinwinesonline.com/
Down memory lane # 2
Another find in the archives, a marketing brochure for the current University of the Arts London, previously The London Institute. The brief was to create an exhibition catalogue format with a separate section showcasing the work of students from each of the five London Colleges. The dynamic upwards movement of the cover image was carried over into the inside text pages with outlines printed onto translucent paper to act as section breaks. Patterns in nature # 1
This gallery of images is part of my ongoing interest in capturing patterns in nature that evoke stillness. There are moments of beauty to be found everywhere around us.
